"Over 30 years of turning our clients' dreams into reality"

About House Calls, Inc.

House Calls, Inc. is not a huge, multi-national home plan company trying to sell a million sets of plans this year. House Calls, Inc. is a down-home, owner-in-the-store, New England home design firm.

When you choose House Calls, Inc. as your design company you're getting 30 plus years of professional building experience in each design.

The business is owned and operated by my wife Donna, and myself. My wife runs the clerical end of our business, answering the phone, scheduling appointments, and keeping me “on task and focused”. I am the sole designer in our office and I personally design each and every home plan.

HCI is located in Windham Maine, about five miles west of the Portland line on Route 302.

Our History

After serving in the military as a young man, my interests in art and design led me to pursue a career as an architect. Unfortunately, attending an expensive design school (at the time) was beyond my family's means. So instead, using previous studies and experience in the building trades, I went to work in the carpentry field.

After about four years working in the trades and watching one boss after another go out of business, I decided that I could do better on my own. So, I went into the construction business myself. Right from the start I designed all the projects I built. It didn't matter if it was a garage, an addition, or a new home. I took to home design naturally. I used my field experience of how buildings were supposed to be put together, and my artistic talent to produce cost effective, functional, New England home designs.

Throughout the next 25 years, my experience and my construction business grew. I built a respected business with a large base of happy clients and friends. About 15 years ago I put my drafting board away and invested in a Computer Aided Drawing system. I then taught myself how to design homes in the computer world.

After I became proficient designing homes in the computer, the word started spreading, and it wasn't long before I was designing homes for other builders, and for retail clients as well. It got to the point that I realized I couldn't continue building homes and designing for others too. So about 10 years ago I made the decision to hang up my hammer and leave the building business (but not my experiences) behind.

Life for me has come full circle now. As I sit at my desk and design new homes for my clients, I cant help but think back to my younger days, when I wanted to be an architect, but didn't have the money to go to school. Call it providence, call it luck, call it hard work. Sometimes life does work out the way we want it do. (Thank you Lord)

As a child my parents always impressed on me that "any job worth doing was worth doing right". That was their interpretation of Ecc. 9:10 - "whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might." I have tried to live by this simple philosophy all my life and I try to apply it to everything I do. This simple philosophy has shown through in the quality of work I produced as a builder, and in my work now as a home designer.

Our business philosophy is short and simple. We will do our best to provide you with a quality set of plans for your needs, at a fair and honest price, as quickly as possible.

If you consider House Calls, Inc. to design your new home, we pledge to do everything possible to turn your dreams into a reality, and add your name to our growing list of happy customers. Contact us anytime for more information. Thanks for taking the time to read this and God bless.
